There was another mass shooting in California, USA, with at least 7 deaths. The gunman suspect has been captured.
Both the suspect and the victim are believed to be Chinese.
The incident occurred Monday (January 23, 2023) in the small town of Half Moon Bay near San Francisco. Local media reported that the incident occurred at a mushroom plantation and another farm nearby.
Police said at a news conference that after arriving at the two scenes, officers found four and three people dead and at least one injured, respectively.
Footage from local television showed police surrounding the car driven by the suspect and capturing it.
The media quoted a city councilman in Half Moon Bay as saying that the suspect was 67-year-old Chinese Zhao Chunli and that the victim was also Chinese.
It is unclear what caused the latest killing. The media quoted local residents as saying that the mushroom farm where the accident occurred was actually a marijuana farm.
Just two days ago, a mass shooting shook the nation in Monterey Park, near Los Angeles in southern California. An Asian man shot and killed 11 people and injured many others at a dance hall during the Lunar New Year celebrations in the predominantly Asian city. The gunman committed suicide as police surrounded him.
The Chinese consulate in Los Angeles confirmed that a Chinese citizen had been killed.
U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday ordered flags at half-mast at government buildings across the country to mourn the dead.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident.
