Heavy fighting continues around Bakhmut in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Russia has stepped up its offensive around Bakhmut in the Donbas region of Udong, and fighting is particularly intense around Suldhar, a few miles north of Bakhmut. According to Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Maliar, the Russian army has begun another major offensive.

Mariar said on the Telegram platform that the Ukrainian army had repelled a previous Russian attack on Suldhar, but that large numbers of troops from the Wagner Group soon returned, using new tactics and more soldiers under heavy artillery fire.

She added: “The enemy really just stepped over the corpses of his own soldiers and used a lot of artillery, multiple rocket launch systems, and mortars. She explained that the attacking forces came from Wagner’s best reserves.

“The new offensive is expected to be fierce, the Russian army has regrouped and increased forces to Suledal,” she said.

Lieutenant General Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of

Ukraine’s ground forces said that while the Russians were “desperately trying to storm the city from different directions” and were putting “the most professional units of the Wagnerians into battle,” so far the Russian army had not succeeded in capturing Suldhar.

Ukrainian officials say they are strengthening forces around Bakhmut and repelling constant attacks by Wagner militants. Businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, targeted the region’s vast underground deposits.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a nightly video address Monday (January 9) that the resilient Ukrainian army repelled wave after wave of attacks in the Donbas, helping the country buy time and gain strength.

“Thanks to the tenacity of our servicemen in Suledal, we have gained more time and more strength for Ukraine,” he said.

Prigozhin is a powerful ally of Russian President Latimer Putin. A U.S. official said Mr. Prigozhin was eyeing salt and gypsum deposits, but Mr. Rigozin had also said he wanted to capture the area’s vast system of tunnels that could hold large numbers of tanks and other equipment.

Serhii Cherevatyi, a spokesman for the command of the Eastern Military District of Ukraine, reported that the city of Suledal “has been practically destroyed.” In the Russian offensive against Bakhmut, Suldar has been a target for a long time.

At a transfer center in the nearby city of Kramatorsk, Olha, 60, said she fled from the apartment building to building, each destroyed by tank battles, and she had to flee Suldhar. She was reluctant to disclose her last name.

“Not a single house is good anymore,” she said, and “the apartment is burning and breaking in half,” she said.

The pro-Russian blogger quoted Prigozhin as saying that his troops were fighting for the administrative building in Suldhar.

The Ukrainian military said it had sent reinforcements to Suldar and that the Ukrainian army was doing everything to defend itself against enemy forces.

“The fighting on the ground is brutal and bloody, with 106 shelling in a day,” Cherevati said on Ukrainian television.

According to Reuters, Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said Moscow was suffering heavy losses in an attempt to justify the mobilization of reserves, but the Russian army had not succeeded. He said on the Telegram platform: “The feat of our warriors is great.

Reuters could not independently confirm this battlefield news.

Russian-backed separatist forces said Monday they had captured a village near the city of Bakhmut.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the statement published by the separatist authorities on the Telegram platform said that the village of Bakersfield, located on the “territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic”, was “liberated by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.” AFP could not independently confirm these claims.

The village is located northeast of Bakhmut. With a pre-war population of 70,000 and local wine production and salt mines, Bakhmut is now the epicenter of fierce fighting. The village is just outside the city of Suldhar.

The United States, Germany, France, and Britain strengthen military aid

The United States announced last Thursday (January 5) that it would provide Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine to help Kiev resist the Russian invasion.

In total, 50 Bradley combat vehicles are expected to be delivered to Ukraine. At the same time, Germany promised to supply Ukraine with German-made armored combat vehicles, and France made a similar move last week.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Monday that he would definitely have to coordinate with allies about arms shipments to Ukraine. Berlin is under increasing pressure to supply Kiev with Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

Scholz said at the launch of the Berlin state campaign by his center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD): “Germany will not go it alone. ”

“Germany will always remain united with its allies and allies… Any different approach would be irresponsible in such a dangerous situation. ”

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February, Germany has become one of Ukraine’s leading military supporters.

Sky News reported that the UK is also considering supplying Ukraine with Challenger 2 main battle tanks.

A U.S. official told a Pentagon briefing Monday that the work of providing battalion-level training for the Ukrainian army will begin this month and may already begin.

He also praised Ukraine’s air defense. “Look at their successes, not only against cruise missiles but also against unmanned aerial vehicles … This positive state of affairs is truly amazing. He also said that the West expects that Ukraine’s air defense system will only become stronger with the help of the United States and other countries.

According to the media reporter Babu, a Pentagon official called the battle for Bakhmut “really barbaric.”

“When I say ‘barbaric,’ I mean thousands and thousands of shells fired between the two sides. He added that Russian mercenaries sacrificed their weaker soldiers to take the lead on the front lines.

The weakers, he said, “actually take the blows” and then the better-trained troops “move behind them to take territory.”

The Kremlin said the latest supply of armored vehicles from the West to Ukraine would exacerbate the conflict, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a briefing Monday that it “will deepen the suffering of the Ukrainian people.”

To the north, Ukrainian officials said Monday that a Russian missile hit a market in the Kharkiv region, killing a 10-year-old girl and wounding several others.

The official said that the missile hit the village of Shevchenkove, about 75 kilometers from the city of Kharkov.
