Biden faces intense pressure to Retaliate Against Iran after 3 US Troops killed in Jordan attack

Biden May Retaliate Against Iran

Iran-backed militants used a drone to attack a U.S. military base on the border between Jordan and Syria on Sunday (January 28), killing three U.S. troops and injuring 34 others. Joe Biden has created strong political pressure to carry out retaliatory strikes against Iran.

Commentators believe that Biden has been avoiding direct conflict with Iran because he does not want to trigger a larger-scale war in the Middle East. But he may now be forced to do so under political pressure.

The media quoted experts in the report as saying that Biden’s options for retaliation could range from striking forces outside Iran to directly attacking military targets in Iran. He may also take a more cautious approach and carry out retaliatory strikes against Iranian-backed militants who attacked US military bases.

According to the media, since the Israel-Kazakhstan war broke out on October 7 last year, militants supported by Iran in Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and the coastal areas of Yemen have carried out more than 150 attacks on U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East.

But until Sunday’s drone attack on a remote military base known as Tower 22 in northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border, no U.S. military personnel had ever been killed, and never had so many been injured. This provides a well-known political reason for Biden to take revenge and attack armed forces supported by Iran without going to direct war with Iran.

Biden stated that the United States would respond but did not disclose any relevant details.

Congressional Republicans accused Biden of letting U.S. forces in the Middle East “sit back and wait for death” as if they were waiting for the day when a drone or missile would breach the air defenses of a military base, and that day finally arrived on Sunday. A suicide drone hit a barracks near a military base early Sunday morning.

Republicans believe Biden must attack Iran directly

“He’s sitting our troops, waiting to be killed,” said Republican Senator Tom Cotton. “The only response to these attacks is a severe attack on Iranian terrorist forces in Iran and the Middle East.”

Republican Representative Mike Rogers, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, also called for direct attacks on Iran.

“It is long overdue for President Biden to finally hold Iran’s terrorist regime and its extremist proxies accountable for the attacks,” the media quoted Rogers as saying.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is preparing to run against Biden again in this year’s U.S. presidential election, directly described militant attacks on U.S. troops as “the consequences of Biden’s weakness and surrender.”

The Biden administration has repeatedly stated that the U.S. government is very dedicated to protecting U.S. officers and soldiers deployed around the world.

Some Democratic members of Congress have also expressed concern that the Biden administration’s strategy of limiting the conflict with Kazakhstan to Gaza is increasingly unsustainable.

“What we’re seeing is spiraling out of control. It’s starting to look like a regional war. It’s unfortunate that America and our troops are in danger,” Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee said. (Barbara Lee) pointed out. She called for an immediate ceasefire in the Israeli-Kazakhstan war.

Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton, who served four tours as a Marine deployed to Iraq, objected to calls by his Republican colleagues for war against Iran, stressing that “deterrence is hard, but war will be worse.”

“To the non-military hawks calling for war with Iran, you are playing into the enemy’s trap, and I would rather see you send your sons and daughters to war,” Moulton said. “We must make an effective strategic response in accordance with our intentions and timeline.”

The media quoted experts as saying that direct strikes against forces in Iran may force Iran to respond strongly, thereby escalating the conflict and involving the United States. There is a massive war in the Middle East.

“When you go public (with an attack), you represent a significant escalation against the Iranians,” Jonathan Lord, director of the Middle East Security Program at the Center for a New American Security, told the media. He believes that an attack inside Iran is a matter of regime survival for Tehran.

An unnamed U.S. defense official also told the media that no one can predict how the situation will develop after a war with Iran.

“Unless the United States is prepared to fight an all-out war, what will an attack on Iran get us?” the official asked.
