The blasts in Kerman, Iran, came four years after a US drone strike killed General Soleimani, the longtime commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps’ powerful Quds Force, at Baghdad airport.

State media accounts gave varying death tolls, but IRNA had the highest number, reporting that 53 people were killed. Tasnim said 50 people were taken to medical centers, and the area was evacuated after the two Iran explosions, which occurred minutes apart at the crowded cemetery. IRNA and Fars News, another semiofficial news agency, said 71 people were injured.

Suspicion for both attacks immediately fell on Israel, although Israeli officials denied responsibility for Tuesday’s attack and had no immediate comment on Wednesday’s events in Iran (Iran explosion).
