More than 370 Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting in Gaza and Lebanon over the past year. However, the Israeli military did not provide details on the six soldiers who died on Wednesday.
The Israeli army invaded southern Lebanon on October 1, causing widespread destruction to border villages, but has made little ground progress inside Lebanon. Israel said it was destroying Hezbollah weapons and command centers near the border, including a massive system of tunnels built by Hezbollah.
In a year of fighting, 3,243 people have been killed in Lebanon and more than 1.2 million have been displaced, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Israel attacks western Syrian city
Israel targeted a city in western Syria near the Lebanese border with multiple airstrikes on Wednesday, Syrian state media reported.
Israeli warplanes struck bridges and military checkpoints in the area around Qusayr, causing air defenses to activate, according to the UK-based anti-war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
There was no word on casualties, and the Israeli military did not comment on the attack.
Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets within government-controlled areas of war-torn Syria in recent years, but Israel rarely acknowledges or discusses the operations. The attacks are usually aimed at the Syrian army or Iranian-backed groups.
The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah is believed to get most of its weapons from its main backer, Iran, through Syria.
