2024 US Presidential Race Updates
Harris will release new economic proposals on Wednesday. Trump said he would not run again if he lost
Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, and current Vice President, recently raised $27 million at a New York fundraiser and plans to deliver a speech on September 25 to outline her economic vision for the United States, addressing challenges such as soaring prices and detailing her proposals for tax cuts for the middle class and tax increases for the wealthy.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump has maintained his stance on tariffs and has declined to participate in debates, citing the start of early voting while also indicating that he would not run for president again in 2028 if he loses the upcoming election. Current polls suggest a competitive race, with Harris holding slight leads over Trump, but margins within the poll’s margin of error indicate an unpredictable electoral landscape as the 2024 presidential election approaches.

Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate and vice president of the United States, who just raised $27 million at a fundraiser in New York, said she will give a speech on Wednesday about her vision for the U.S. economy, outlining her economic agenda. Harris continued to urge Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump to debate her again. Trump said in an interview broadcast that day that if he loses the election in November, he will not run again in 2028.
Harris said on Sunday that she will give a speech on her economic vision on Wednesday (September 25), saying that “there are more steps we can take to help the American people realize their dreams and solve the economic challenges they face.”
The Democratic presidential candidate plans to address the soaring prices during President Biden’s term by elaborating on the economic agenda in more detail. Trump has been criticizing her for delaying the release of her own economic policies.
Harris said she would push for tax cuts for the middle class and tax increases for the rich and large companies. She adopted Trump’s proposal to abolish the tip tax, but only for low-income and middle-income taxpayers. She also criticized Trump’s plan to impose high tariffs on imported goods, saying it would increase the cost of goods.
During his campaign, Trump said that if re-elected, he would impose tariffs of 10-20% on all imported goods and 60% on products from China. He launched a tariff war with China during his tenure, and President Biden basically continued these tariffs after taking office and increased tariffs on some products.
According to an aide to Harris’s campaign team, Harris raised $27 million at a fundraiser in New York on Sunday. This is the largest fundraising since she took over the campaign from President Joe Biden.
Harris continued to urge her opponent Trump to have another debate with her at the event. She emphasized that the two sides still have many issues to discuss.
“I firmly believe that we owe the American people and voters a conversation before Election Day,” she said.
Trump has refused to participate in another debate. He said last Saturday (September 21) that it was too late to debate and “the voting has already begun.”
Harris mocked Trump and said, “My opponent seems to be looking for excuses.”
Before mid-October, more than a dozen states will hold early voting, allowing voters who cannot vote in person on Election Day to complete the procedure in advance.
Trump: I will not run again if I lose this year’s election
Meanwhile, Trump said in an interview that aired Sunday that he doesn’t think he’d run again in 2028 if he loses the 2024 presidential election.
“No, I don’t think that’s going to happen, I think that’s the end of it,” Trump told interviewer Sharyl Attkis-son when asked if he would run again in 2028.
The comments were noteworthy not only because Trump ruled out running again, but also because it was a rare admission by Trump that he could legitimately lose the election. He typically insists that only massive fraud could cause him to lose the election.
“Hopefully, we’ll succeed,” Trump added.
Trump will be 82 in 2028, a year older than current President Biden, who was questioned for his age before dropping out of the race in July.
Harris slightly ahead in latest polls
The latest polls released by NBC and CBS on Sunday showed that Harris’s approval ratings in the two polls were 49% and 52%, respectively, 5 and 4 percentage points ahead of Trump.
CNN political reporter Harry Enten analyzed that although Harris seemed to have a slight advantage over Trump nationwide, it was still within the margin of error, which could be said to be the closest presidential election in 60 years. Coupled with the consideration of the electoral college system, the outcome of this election is unpredictable.
