‘SALAAR’ BOX OFFICE FEAT

In the aftermath of the lackluster performance of Prabhas’ ‘Adipurush,’ fans were pinning their hopes on ‘Salaar.’ The mass-action spectacle not only met but exceeded expectations, garnering a positive response from audiences. Preliminary estimates indicate that the film shattered domestic box office records by amassing an impressive Rs 95 crore on its opening day. Prithviraj Sukumaran took to social media, announcing the global earnings of ‘Salaar’ at a staggering Rs 178.7 crore.

The film demonstrated its prowess most prominently in the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions, where it amassed a whopping Rs 70 crore. Commanding an overall occupancy of 88.93 percent in Telugu-speaking areas, ‘Salaar’ also exhibited robust performance in Karnataka and Kerala, securing opening day figures of Rs 12 crore and Rs 5 crore, respectively.

Surpassing All Competitors

As the cinematic juggernaut continues its ascent, ‘Salaar’ is positioned as the frontrunner for the title of the biggest opener of 2023, outshining the first-day collections of ‘Pathaan,’ ‘Jawan,’ and ‘Animal.’ While ‘Pathaan’ accrued Rs 57 crore on its initial day in India, ‘Jawan’ and ‘Animal’ reported openings of Rs 75 crore and Rs 63 crore, respectively.

ABOUT ‘SALAAR’

“Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language epic action film written and directed by Prashanth Neel and produced by Vijay Kiragandur. Starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, with a supporting cast including Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy, and Ramachandra Raju, the film unfolds the tale of friendship between Deva (Prabhas) and Vardha (Prithviraj), the prince of the city-state Khansar. When a coup d’Γ©tat is plotted by his father’s ministers, Vardha seeks Deva’s assistance to claim undisputed rule over Khansaar.

Originating from Neel’s debut film “Ugramm,” the film is the first installment of a two-part series. Initially announced in December 2020 as “Salaar,” the official title was later revealed in July 2023 as “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.” Principal photography began in January 2021 in Telangana, extending to Hyderabad and Italy, concluding in early December 2023. With music by Ravi Basrur, cinematography by Bhuvan Gowda, and editing by Ujwal Kulkarni, the film hit Indian theaters on 22 December 2023 in both standard and IMAX formats. A sequel, “Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam,” is currently in development.

As previously reported, this movie unfolds in two parts: ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’ and ‘Shouryaanga Parvam.’ Prabhas takes on the role of Deva, with Prithviraj Sukumaran portraying Varadharaja Mannar, Jagapathi Babu as Rajamannar, and Shruti Haasan as Aadya.

‘Salaar: Part One – Ceasefire’ captivates audiences in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. It faces stiff competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ at the box office as the film continues to soar to new heights in the cinematic realm.

In the city-state of Khansaar in 1985, Devaratha “Deva” and Vardharaja “Vardha” Mannar, the son of Khansaar’s king Raja Mannar, share an unbreakable bond of friendship. However, when Raja Mannar orders the extermination of the Shouryanga clan in Khansaar, Deva and his mother become unintended casualties in the conflict. In a selfless act, Vardha relinquishes his claim over Khansaar’s territory as a form of payment to spare their lives. As they part ways, Deva assures Vardha that he will be there whenever Vardha calls upon him.
