A Russian man has died after attacking by a shark in Egypt and pulling underwater. According to an al-Jazeera report, the incident occurred on Thursday from the coast of the Red Sea Resort city of Hurghada. The country’s environment ministry said that the attacker was a tiger shark. The outlet stated that the authorities shut down a 74 -km stretch of the beach and announced that it would remain away from the boundary for a plan to go for swimming or other water sports activity by Sunday.

In a Facebook post, the ministry said, “An attack by a tiger shark on a beach … he died.” However, it did not give any further details.

The video of the incident is roaming on social media and shows that the man is struggling and trying to swim away from the shark that is moving around him and attacking. He was finally pulled underwater.

A lifeguard raised an alarm, after which some people ran to help the man, but were not able to arrive on time.

The Russian consulate in Hurghada recognized the person as a Russian citizen but did not name him, the outlet further said in its report.

Russia’s Tass news agency said it was born in 1999 and was full-time in Egypt.

In a statement posted on his official channel on the Telegram messaging application, the consulate urged Russian tourists to be vigilant in water and strictly followed any swimming sanctions imposed by the local authorities.
